Disclaimer: The following information is intended for people who own genuine Windows software but have problems with product keys, activations, online updates, etc.

Windows XP has the VLK (Volume License Key) which once entered can automatically activate the Volume Licensing editions of Windows XP offline. Obviously this convenient feature punched a hole in Bill Gates' wallet and was therefore not carried over to Vista.

But please don't feel hopeless. Windows Vista and 7 still have offline activations. Read on.

Imagine how OEMs like Dell activate thousands of PCs everyday?

Essentially they employ automated activations which touch the BIOS. (Yes, this is the so-called SLP or System Locked Preinstallation.)

Fortunate for all of us, SLP is a kind of offline activation in nature. We have the back door to get away from Microsoft's activation servers! LOL.

(What about the product key label sticked to an OEM PC? In fact it is for telephone inquiry only!)

You don't need to understand the technical core of SLP. 7Loader will take care the details for you:

It would be nice if you know your BIOS supports SLIC 2.1. If you don't, it doesn't matter - go ahead and select an OEM brand, then press Install 7Loader. Read the online instructions.

Be patient as the installation will take a while. Wait until 7Loader reboots your PC.

After Windows 7 comes back, confirm it is activated from My Computer/Properties. You will also see that your PC is now an OEM branded PC. The OEM brand is what you clicked in 7Loader.

Suppose the OEM brand you clicked is Dell. Now your Windows 7 is activated as if it were pre-installed on a Dell PC.

Moreover, be aware that 7Loader has inserted Dell's SLP product key to your Windows 7. Hopefully you will survive the forthcoming Windows 7 Geniune Advantage Validation, as Microsoft cannot easily write off or blacklist an OEM product key.
