In 1999 the China Central Television spent RMB10 million on the exclusive broadcasting rights of the TV drama series "燕子李三/Swallow Li San", as a measure to meet the challenges from the rising regional television broadcasters.

The drama is about the good and bad guys of the martial arts clique "Swallow Gate" in war-torn China during 1920s-50s.

Its opening theme song "兩顆心依然/Two Hearts Remain" is sung by Zhu Hua (朱樺).
